Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at gmfmusicnorthants@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

GMF Music is run and delivered solely by me,  Greg Floyd.  I'm a specialist music practitioner with over 20 years experience in mental healthcare, SEND, and neurodiversity.  That said, GMF Music is very much a family-rooted business - supported behind-the-scenes by my wife, children, and parents, who make it possible for me to do what I do.  I use "we" throughout this site and social media, to honour the collective effort that keeps things running, and those that have helped make me who I am.

Based in Northampton, UK, our range is Leicester to Milton Keynes (North to South), and Cambridge to Coventry (East to West).  So, if you're within our reach we would welcome your enquiry.

Event Support requests start from £120, and the music-as-therapy provision starts from £60.  Final pricing depends on factors such as trave distance and specific needs of your setting or event.  Because every request is different, please get in touch for a unique quote once your requirements are understood.

Yes.  These safeguards are important for peace of mind and are often required when working in settings involving children or vulnerable adults.  Certification for both can be provided on request.   DBS checks are carried out and renewed every few years, and public liability insurance is provided through Simply Business, covering accidental damage caused by any equipment for up to £1m.

No - GMF Music is not marketed as an entertainer or DJ service.  While there may be similarities when providing event support, the purpose and approach are different.  Our music sessions - including live music-as-therapy - focus on meaningful engagement, promoting wellbeing, hope, quality of life, and purpose.  Rather than delivering a fixed performance, sessions are adaptive and participant-led.  People are encouraged to choose songs, shape the experience, and actively take part in the music-making itself.  You can find more about this approach in the relevant sections of the website.

GMF Music does not claim the titles 'Teacher' or 'Therapist'.  Both professions require specific qualifications  and protected professional standards, which we respect.  Instead, GMF Music delivers music-as-therapy sessions, activity leadership, and event support designed to promote engagement, wellbeing, and meaningful participation.  The focus is on accessible, person-centred music experiences rather than formal therapy or classroom teaching.

Two things make GMF Music distinctive.

1) Clinical experience in complex settings.

With a background in mental healthcare and experience in managing challenging behaviours, GMF Music can work confidently in settings such as psychiatric hospitals and specialist care environments where many music providers may struggle.

2) Completely live and adaptable music.

All sessions are 100% live and unplugged - no backing tracks, fixed set lists, or reliance on equipment.  This keeps sessions fully mobile and flexible, allowing music to respond to the moment.  Participants can choose songs, lead singing, and shape the experience themselves.

Together, that combination of clinical understanding and live musicianship allows GMF Music to adapt quickly to people, settings, and needs.

For Event Support, the same philosophy applies: clients and customers have real control over playlists, planning, atmosphere, and optional elements such as open mic - because ultimately, it's your event, not ours.

Availability depends on scheduling, but most settings book music-as-therapy provision once or twice per month.  That said, one-off visits and taster sessions are always welcome, and we're happy to discuss what works best for your setting.

Right here.  Please read this carefully, as terms are considered accepted by proceeding with a booking.

At GMF Music, we operate in good faith and aim to keep our terms simple to avoid unnecessary paperwork.   However, by making a booking with GMF Music you are agreeing to the terms and expectations outlined below, which are in place to protect our small, independent business and ensure a fair working relationship.

CANCELATIONS:

Please let us know as early as possible if you need to cancel a booking.

Cancellations made with less than 72 hours' notice may still be invoiced in full, as short-notice cancellations often cannot be re-booked.  You may also be invoiced in full if the service cannot go ahead due to:

*No access to the building (no response at the door/gate) or access difficulties  including inadequate car parking conditions.

*Booking errors made by the setting.

*Clinical isolation, such as norovirus or covid-19 out-breaks.

*Any other unforeseen circumstances that prevent delivery of the service booked on our arrival.

We understand these events are sometimes outside your control, but as a very small business, unfulfilled bookings still represent a real loss of income.

If WE ever need to cancel, we'll give as much notice as possible, communicate the absence in as many ways available, you'll not be charged, and we'll try to offer an alternative. Some occasional disruption can occur during school holidays due to childcare needs, as there is currently no deputy practitioner available.

PAYMENT TERMS:

Invoices are typically issued on the same day as service delivery.  Full payment is expected within 28 days (4 weeks) of the invoice date.

We recognise that some organisations have slower internal payment processes, but we ask all clients to ensure this timeframe is met wherever possible.

If you anticipate a delay, please let us know at the earliest opportunity so we can work with you to avoid escalation.

Non-payment procedure:

*Within 4 - 6 weeks, a polite reminder will usually be sent, seeking clarification.

*Within 6 - 8 weeks, if we haven't heard anything, a £25 late payment fee may be added to your next invoice (or issued as a separate invoice), as this will by now be affecting our financial security seriously.

*After 10 weeks, if no payment has cleared or communication received, a Letter Before Action (LBA) will be issued.  This serves notice of our intention to pursue recovery through the Small Claims Court.

*Any court-related fees and administrative costs incurred will be claimed in addition to the original invoice amount.

FEE REVIEW &  VALUE GUARANTEE
Fees are reviewed twice a year and may increase slightly (usually by the cost of a coffee), based on the cost of living rises, and the value of our work as reported by client feedback.

We are committed to offering the best value for our unique services.  If you find another provider offering the same level of service, experience, and personalisation at a lower rate, please let us know - we'll match it.

SERVICE DELIVERY

We will ask for any additional information from you when making your booking for the first time, to assist in our planning and preparation. We expect staff within settings to lead by example wherever possible in efforts to promote engagement in the musical activity.  We aim to make your booking process as stress-free as possible.  We will endeavour to be punctual but if we experience unforeseen delays, we will get in contact to advise and update as soon as possible.  You can expect anything booked with GMF Music to be engaging, considered, meaningful and delivered with a smile.  If you feel we have fallen short of this, please let us know.

WHAT WE'RE NOT....

To avoid booking before certain our services are the right fit for you, we encourage new customers to reach out in an email with a quick enquiry if at all unsure, to avoid any disappointment.  A common misconception is around entertainment - Please bear in mind GMF Music is not an entertainment service - if you have booked live, therapeutic wellbeing interventions, you haven't booked a concert.  If you booked event support, you haven't booked a DJ or compere.  We welcome feedback and suggestions, before or after a booking, and again do reach out if at all unsure.

MEDIA/PRIVACY/GDPR

We will not be keeping any sensitive information about you, your company, clients, or vulnerable people-in-care, thus eliminating data protection issues.  You are welcome to photograph or film parts of the service delivery for media sharing internally or externally for your own marketing purposes, clinical updates, or for families of people-in-care, however please let us know if your company has particular safeguards in place either for specific individuals or within blanket policy. If you share your recordings of GMF Music activity in full or part online to a public audience (shareable media) then we will assume consent has been given by those participating and captured, and may use that media for our own promotional purposes - if you anticipate a problem with this, please let us know.  Of course, WE will not record anything on our devices without explicit consent, policies of the setting considered, and understandings of capacity of those involved.

LOSS/DAMAGES

Any damage or loss caused by the setting, its staff, or people under its care, may be reflected in the invoice to cover reasonable replacement or repair costs.  This includes, for example, equipment being accidently damaged, or an instrument not returned when asked.  We ask that staff support in managing GMF Music resources to minimise these issues.

ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS

By booking a session with GMF Music, you confirm your agreement to these terms - which we will have highlighted to you prior to booking and/or on each invoice -  and understand they are enforceable under UK small claims procedure if necessary.

Yes, and it would be warmly welcome, especially over on our Facebook page, facebook.com/gmfmusicnorthants.  Alternatively, please email us with your feedback: gmfmusicnorthants@gmail.com
