There's more to earning a living with music than making it as a big-time producer, filling stadiums on tour, becoming a teacher (always the safe option), or being a therapist, and they often don't talk much about this at College or University. We creatives often hit this "What do I do next?" barrier. Well, introducing the mentorship initiative! I'll gladly talk about my experiences to anyone who's interested in doing something for themselves, doing things a little differently, and whose natural musicianship is matched only by their natural compassion. If this sounds like you, this could be especially useful if you're considering approaching health or social care - although my experience also covers event support, tuition, schools, and group leadership too. Get in touch via text or email for business start-up advice, or simply some impartial, non-judgmental friendly chat on best next steps; all completely free. gmfmusicnorthants@gmail.com

Limited shadowing opportunities are possible, subject to policies and preferences of any given setting, and my assessment of your suitability, but I'm a firm believer that real-life experience is the best thing to accumulate, especially if you're just starting out, or want to see if it's something you could do yourself, or might want to do in the future. You can learn more in an hour doing something, than you can in a day reading or talking about it. So once you engage with the mentorship initiative, you can potentially come and see GMF Music sessions in action. Just reach out, tell me your own situation, and ask about mentorship opportunities at gmfmusicnorthants@gmail.com

GMF Music doesn't currently offer apprenticeship placements or have any practitioner vacancies. However, the best way to get your foot in the door if you're especially keen, competent, compassionate, but perhaps lacking in confidence or direction (which is how I'd describe myself up to the age of 30) is to reach out and ask about mentorship opportunities; this could lead to shadowing sessions in action, and eventually a conversation about how to craft a caseload of your own and start earning from your services. Too many talented and compassionate creatives aren't using their gifts to their full potential, to benefit their community, enrich the lives of others, or help those in crisis, and I'm happy to play my part in trying to change that. gmfmusicnorthants@gmail.com
